Nadia Comaneci

If you are reading this and you know me, chances are you know that i am slightly obsessed with the sport of gymnastics. So you probably wouldn't be surprised if i told you that i spent my afternoon watching Movies on gymnastics on youtube such as "Little Girls in Pretty Boxes" and "Nadia" a movie based on her life. It also wouldn't surprise you that after watching "Nadia" i looked up more about Nadia and i know you must be thinking that after doing two assignments on her there mustn't be much more to know but i was wrong, I have learnt a lot about Nadia in the past few hours it has been très exciting.

Nadia Comaneci walked into the gym at age six after Bela Karolyi spotted her and a friend in the school playground pretending to be gymnasts. Bela would not stop until he found his girls and in the third classroom he went to he asked "who likes gymnastics?" and the two girls he had seen outside at recess put up there hands and eagerly said yes. Bela took them back to the gym for an assessment and Nadia was fearless she passed the test with flying colours and since then Bela worked her six days a week, four hours a day.

Ok well this is probably boring you but Nadia Comaneci was the gymnast that changed this sport into a little girls sport. Nadia Comaneci went to the Montreal Olympics in 1976 at age 14 (the hell, i'm already over the hill well that mucks up my plan) and scored a perfect 10.00, funny thing is the score board didn't allow for a 10.00 to be shown (a 9.99 was the limit) the score came up as 1.00 causing the crowd to be outraged!, well wouldn't you be if you just saw a perfect routine get 1.00. Nadia followed this "1.00" with six more, no one could believe it! seven perfect 10.00.

Nadia however did not have things come easy for her, she was deprived of food - if you wanted to be a gymnast you had to be small, thin and light. There are accusations of Bela being abusive and much more but she managed to get past that and score a perfect 10.00. After watching her routines, well they are quite small in difficulty compared to today but the execution is bloody amazing!

Nadia is and will be a role model for me and many future young gymnasts!
